The 5 Stages of Transitions

Going from “how did I get here” to “this is where I’m meant to be”.

Just like any experience in life, going through a transition is going to be unique for every individual. What I have found to be common among people going through major transitions are the following 5 phases. This post is about the phases I went through to learn the lessons I shared last week. [And I should make something clear, these phases don’t always happen in a linear order and sometimes we go back and forth between the phases before we get to phase 5.]

Phase 1) Confusion What is going on and how did I get here?

During this phase, you’re not sure how your day will turn out. Actually, you might not be sure where you’ll be in a week or a month.
This is the toughest stage for people who are uncomfortable with uncertainty. As I learned by phase 4, being comfortable with uncertainty makes life more exciting. But at phase 1, you just want to know where you’re headed.

Phase 2) Depression Where did I go wrong and what should I have done differently?

Thinking about the past and allowing it to constantly remind us of our mistakes or…
